Creating a Baby Shower Themed Cake

Baby shower themes are greatly preferred nowadays because they add more ease in the preparations and decorations. With baby shower themes, the party would have more life and will be more fun for the guests. It’s always a nice scene to look at decorations that are coordinated with each other and much more if the food, the party goodies and especially the cake are also match up with these decorations.

It’s always a fun experience designing a baby shower cake. But see to it that you still keep in mind the preferences of the mother to be. Here are a few steps in creating a baby shower themed cake for this memorable event.

Picking Out Baby Shower Themes

Baby shower cakes should be tailored to the theme that you are working with. There are lots of good ideas and options for baby shower themes and finding the one which best suit the preferences of the parents to be is the excellent choice.

These baby shower themes include fairy tale garden baby showers, diaper baby shower parties, those with animal, sports or toys themes and many more.

Homemade Or Ready Made?

After picking out the theme you want, decide whether you want it homemade or one that is ready made. Of course, a homemade one is definitely one of a kind and you will have a say on whatever design you would want for the cake to have.

Another option is to have the cake ready made for you. These ready made and beautifully designed cakes that you can find from your favorite local bakeries spare you the hassle of making the cake most especially for busy moms to be. The trick to get the perfect design that you want is to have a good conversation with the baker so that he will be able to prepare the cake according to your preferences.

Making A Themed Cake

Once you’ve decided to have you hands produce your baby shower cake and want to do it all by yourself, here are a few tips about baby shower themes along with their baby shower cakes that will guide you through making the best baby shower themed cake for your upcoming event.

1.Ducky Theme- When making a cake for a ducky theme, use blue butter cream as an outline of the pond and then fill it with blue gel to serve as the water. After that, find little ducky pieces and place them on top of the blue gel and give these mini duckies butter cream raindrops to have the desired ducky theme effect.

2.Butterfly Theme- Pipe a wonderful butterfly garden for the little angel with all the colorful flowers as well as the different sizes and shades of butterflies. To complete the effect, add a wandering little one on the top.

3.Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Theme- Have the cake covered with sky blue fondant. Then use a white or yellow marshmallow fondant, roll it and cut it in a star-like shape with facial features and a dimpled smile.

4.Baby Blocks Theme- If you chose a theme such as a tea party or any other elegant theme for your baby shower, this cake is a good choice. When making this cake, fill it with jam then cut out the petit fours which will then be covered with fondant all over. Once they dry, decorate them with lettering. Have it arranged in a way that it spells out your message then decorate the rest of the petit fours perhaps, with pictures and other nice stuff.

If you opt to go without a theme for your baby shower cake, you can always put on cute baby pictures at the top of the frosting and you already have one unique baby shower cake designed according to your preference!

Decorating cakes is fun and easy. And having these cakes tailored to the baby shower theme that you chose makes the cake more meaningful and special for the event. The cake is not only a simple dessert, it conveys the true meaning of the celebration and that is to welcome the soon to be born little angel to the family.

Creating a Baby Shower Gift Basket

Creating a baby shower gift basket can be done in a lot of creative and original ways. You can go for the typical Diaper gift basket where you just stack some diapers up and finish off with a few twisted ribbons of blues and pinks depending on the gender of the baby. You can also go for themed baby shower gift baskets that contain baby items according to the theme you choose to work with.

Look Into Baby Shower Gift Registries

Nowadays, mothers are setting up gift registries for their baby showers. It is more practical and the mother will be able to get the present that she truly likes and that she can use for taking care of her baby.

Before making your baby shower gift basket, it would really help to look into the registry so that you will have a good idea of the things that the mother to be wants. From there, you will be able to choose a theme if you want to work with one and a way to narrow down your choices.

Additional Items

Some baby shower gift baskets contain only particular items of the same kind. For instance, a diaper baby shower gift basket may only contain a bunch of diapers in it but to make the basket more unique, you might want to put additional baby items such as pacifiers, baby bottles, rattles and other little baby items that add to the desired effect on your gift basket.

Themed Baby Shower Gift Baskets

You can work with themes too for your baby shower gift baskets. For example, if you want to work with a bath time theme, you could put items that the baby can use for bathing and grooming such as baby shampoo, baby soaps, a rubber ducky, robe and many more. You might also want to include a disposable camera for a shot of that first bath of mommy’s little angel.

Another theme that you can work with is a scrap book theme. For many parents nowadays, making a scrap book seems to be the latest thing that they love doing for their babies as a piece of remembrance. For a scrap book baby shower gift basket, fill it with different kinds of scrap booking supplies and picture frame cutouts. This gift will surely last a lifetime.

The bedtime theme is a favorite. You can put some fairy tale books, soft blankets, musical CDs, puffy cushions, cuddly stuffed animals and other bedtime baby items to fill the bedtime themed gift basket.

You can also make a gift basket for the mother to be. A spa basket perhaps would definitely be something the mommy would appreciate. You can put in a scent that the mom really likes with a few candles to set that relaxing mood and a new robe and slippers to really achieve that spa-like effect.

Designing Your Baby Shower Gift Basket

When finding a basket, take into account its size. Remember that the bigger basket you have means the more you have to fill which entails more costs for you. That is why, most of the time guests prefer a medium-sized gift basket. As filler, you may want to use colorful scrunched raffia or shredded tissue layered at the bottom and the sides of the basket along with the baby items.

It would help a lot if you know the gender of the baby. It will be easier for you to choose the colors to work with in terms of the baby items as well as the ribbons that you will decorate your gift basket with.

Baby shower gift baskets are perhaps the most personalized presents to give the mommies to be in this special and memorable occasion. The moms can use these baskets too for other purposes after they take all of the baby items out and use them for raising the little ones. Choosing the theme to work with as well as the colors and decorative elements that you will put in it as finishing touches is a fun and exciting experience as baby shower guests and if you want your gift to be as unique, you can just mix and match items that are quite outlandish.

When is the Best Time to Throw a Baby Shower

A baby shower is a celebration held to announce someone’s pregnancy. It can be hosted by family members, relatives, friends, co-workers or just anyone who knows the soon-to-be parents.

When is the Right Time to Hold a Baby Shower

There are a lot of considerations to take note of in throwing a baby shower. One of the most important is the time when to hold it. So when exactly is the best time to hold a baby shower for a mom-to-be?

Adoptive Parents Gets to Celebrate it During

Usually, adoptive parents hold baby showers during the exact arrival or just a few days or weeks after the arrival of their adopted child.

Biological Parents and the Usual Time of Baby Showering

Biological parents can be given a baby shower party depending on different factors. If they’re traditional ones, only the first-born child gets to be celebrated with a baby shower, since that’s the norm during the olden times. And it’s usually held at the last stage of pregnancy, also known as the third trimester. This is estimated to be within a month or two before the predicted delivery date.

Other moms wish that the baby shower gets to be held about two to three months before the due date. This is for the practicality of it. It will allow them to shop only for baby supplies that they did not receive during the baby shower. Not a bad idea, really.

Why? When the Child is Already Here

Others who wish to throw a shower wait until the childbirth. Some times about one or two months after delivery are left to pass before holding the shower. There are different reasons for this. One is if the mother is having a difficult pregnancy. Logically, there are some moms who have hard time during pregnancy that they can be bedridden. This will prevent them from enjoying the baby shower fully since she may not be able to participate in the games and other activities. Another reason is if the mothers religion does not consent of having a shower before the childbirth. Some would like to make sure of the child’s gender, this is for making sure that the gifts suit the child. Some would simply like to be able to see the child while holding the shower.

Whenever the Host Find it Suitable

There are friends who can’t be there during one formal baby shower. During this situation, there can always be second or even third baby showers. It depends on the availability of these close people.

What to Put in Your Baby Shower Invitation

What do you think will be the first thing that will help set the mood for your baby shower party? It’s the baby shower invitation.

The date, time, venue and theme for your baby shower will all be known through the invitations. So if you’re wondering what exactly to put in your shower invitation and how to format it, here are some tips.

After careful consideration as to what theme to use in holding a baby shower, here are some of the invitation content that you should never forget including:

Name of the Guest of Honor: This is the name of the person you’re holding a baby shower party for.

Date: Make sure that you double check the date you put on the invite or you’ll risk ruining it all through annoying the guests and giving the guest of honor a bad surprise.

Time: The same with the date, better do a double-look so that everything goes according to plans.

Place: Make sure that the venues name and even place a map if it’s somewhere that you’re not sure everyone knows about.

Theme: This will help in making your baby shower more enjoyable if it’s spelled out on the invite whatever the theme is. You can also specify if there’s an attire requirement.

If it’s a surprise baby shower: Please make sure if the guest of honor likes surprises if you’re planning to do a surprise baby shower.

Phone number, return card or RSVP date

Now what about the wording? Do you want to know a sample of baby shower wordings that can guide you in creating your nice invites? Here are some wordings:

- One Simple Baby Shower Wording Sample

What food should be served at the shower?

Typically there are no full meals served during baby showers, only finger foods. Chips, pretzels, ice cream, pie, cake…just typical snack or dessert foods. A fruit or vegetable tray would be a good alternative for the health conscious. There should be coffee & punch available for the guests. You may also choose to have soft drinks or other beverages available. Out of respect to the mother-to-be do not serve alcoholic drinks. If the mother-to-be is not drinking caffeine either, you might choose to forego caffeinated coffee and soft drinks. The type of food also varies with theme. It is not uncommon to have formal teas or barbecues for example.

Fresh Fruit

Fruit is an easy food to serve that everyone likes as an appetizer, with the meal or even with desert. Buy and cut your favorite fruits up into squares or you can buy fruit salad from your local grocery store to save you some work. Served cubed in a large bowl or mix fruits on skewers and serve on a platter.

Vegetables

Vegetables are another easy food to serve as appetizers or with the baby shower meal. As with fruit, you can cut up celery, broccoli, cauliflower, baby carrots, and other favorites or you can find vegetable trays at the market. Serve chilled with ranch dressing or make your own dips to impress your guests.

Finger Sandwiches

Cucumber sandwiches are the baby shower #1 favorite sandwich because they’re frequently served at showers with an Afternoon Tea theme. You have some flexibility with the type of sandwich you serve; just make sure to cut the sandwiches into dainty portions.

Baby Shower Drinks

Coffee, tea, punch and soda are all great baby shower beverages. If the mommy-to-be doesn’t mind, you may also serve wine or other alcoholic drinks. Make sure to have cream, sugar and both the pink and blue sweeteners for the coffee drinkers. You can brew a pot of tea, but hot water and an assortment of tea bags is a nice touch. If you’re serving soda, make sure to have regular and diet choices. As far as the punch, there are so many recipes. You can go with a more traditional fruit punch or serve pink lemonade, raspberry-lemonade, or mint julep.

Although most of the time, only finger foods are served during baby showers, you can always have the last say if you prefer serving full meals. The main thing is to have fun.

What are some good shower games?

While all baby showers don’t necessarily have to play games, they are great ice-breakers and can be lots of fun. It is especially fun to play games if the guests do not know each other well. Typically, you play two to four games at a baby shower, depending on how much time it takes. The winner of the game is usually given a small gift from the hostess as a prize. If there is a tie, the prize goes to the guest that has not won a game yet or if neither guest has won a game, simply ask the mother-to-be to choose a number between 1 and 50. Whoever is closer wins the prize.

Remember to have enough pens and paper for all the guests. It is also helpful if you have hard surfaces available for the guests to write on. A magazine would work well. Pens that don’t work are common and tend to slow down the party, so test out pens before they are needed. If you buy new pens, roll them around a bit until the ink begins to flow.

Prizes for games are not usually elaborate, but are instead fun things that the guests can use. Some suggestions include:

    * Potpourri
* Candles
* Picture Frames
* Bath Soaps
* Food Goodies
* Flowers or other items that decorated for the shower.

Game Descriptions:
# Name Game (forming words with letters in baby names)
# Feeding Time! (while blindfolded try to scoop cotton balls)
# Rice Bowl (while blinded fold try to find safety pins in rice)
# Baby Guests (match each guest to their baby photo)
# Baby Bingo (bingo with baby words instead of numbers)
# Shower Gift Bingo (bingo played during gift opening)
# Round the Tummy (guests estimate size of mommy’s tummy)
# It’s in the Bag (guess what items are only by touch)
# Off Limits! (certain action or word off limits during shower)
# Baby Food Game (identifying baby foods based on their appearance)
# Scrambled (unscrambling baby-related words)

One important note to remember is to not play games that can be too messy as this can be stressful for the pregnant one if she will be left to do all the cleaning. Also, avoid playing baby shower games that require too much movement, especially if the party venue is a small one or particularly if the party is in the house of the pregnant person. Again, you don’t want to put so much strain to the pregnant person.

Babies are so much fun. But baby games shower are much more fun since moms-to-be, godparents, grandparents, and other invitees in the baby shower can get to play childish games again. Some of the baby game shower that can be played include Sing It, Baby!, Measuring up Mommy, Here’s Looking at You, Kid!, Don’t Say Baby, Baby Truth or Dare, The Seventh Gift, and Dig out the Pins.

These baby games are the common baby game showers usually played. They are a great way that would let the guests mingle and get to know each other, if they aren’t acquainted yet. This is also another great way to give honor to the mom-to-be for having that precious baby on the way.

How do we play these baby game showers? Here is the run-down on how to play the baby game shower and create good memories of a great baby shower.

In Sing It, Baby!, the guests participants form a circle. They can sit or stand. Then, each guest must sing a line or two from a song that has the word “baby” in it. When the first game player has finished, the next person seated on her right has ten seconds to sing another “baby” song. “Baby” songs cannot be repeated, thus, participants who repeat a song or cannot think of a “baby” song gets booted out of the game. Last person singing in this baby game shower wins the prize!

How big has mommy become? Measuring Up Mommy is the baby game shower to play as this gives the guests the freedom to measure mommy’s size. Have a couple of toilet paper rolls ready and ask each participant to estimate the size of mommy’s girth by cutting the toilet paper to their guess size. Then each one wraps around the new mommy’s stomach the toilet paper they cut. The nearest length approximating to the mommy’s stomach wins the prize!

Remember how you looked when you were a baby? This game takes you down memory lane as you need to dig up those baby pictures of yours. Because you need them to play the baby game shower Here’s Lookin’ At You, Kid! Before the party itself, request all the guests coming to bring the cutest baby picture of themselves. Upon their arrival, secure each baby picture and assign a number per picture. During the game, lay all baby pictures and give each participant paper and pen and ask them to identify as many baby pictures as they can. The guest with the most number of correct guesses is the big winner.

This baby game shower makes you NOT say what you are suppose to be attending to! The game Don’t Say Baby is precisely that! Don’t say “baby” during the entire length of the baby game shower for the diaper pin that was given to you upon your arrival will be taken away from you. The person with the most number of diaper pins collected at the end of the shower party wins a prize.

This baby game shower is for those who love baby trivia and the like. Play Baby Truth or Dare by writing down some baby trivia, some correct and others purposely written incorrectly. During the baby game shower, ask randomly if the baby facts are either true or false. Those who guess correctly gets a prize while those who don’t will be dared to perform in front of everyone else.

We all know that the single lady who catches the bride’s wedding bouquet is said to become the next bride. In The Seventh Gift, it is not so much a baby game shower but more of a fable that says that the giver of the seventh gift unwrapped will be the next expecting mother. However, avoid “planting” the seventh gift.

Last but not the least, Dig Out the Pins is the baby game shower that tests the agility of the guests as they fish out the most number of diaper pins from a large bowl filled with uncooked rice and diaper pins in under two minutes. The participant that has the most number of pins brings home the prize.

Choosing a baby name for your child is almost like choosing his identity. Ever heard about the association of a person’s name with his personality? That’s how our names really work. A name molds a person’s identity like a cookie-cutter. So, better get that best baby name for your son or daughter. Read on for some tips on how to provide that best baby name for your little angel.

1. Stop it already with the dictates of your family’s tradition. Choosing the right baby name does not have to always rely on what your elderly relatives deem to be the best baby name. It is your baby’s name, not theirs. So, better act like it. Once your baby is born he will be stuck with that baby name for life. That means it’s not wise to just settle for any baby name that will suit your grandma’s or auntie’s taste.

2. Take a look of a picture of his future. You don’t want your baby to be always called with a monicker that will forever ridicule him or will allow his playmates to make a big laughingstock out of him, right? Research about the meaning of the baby name you are eyeing to give to your baby. Don’t consider Beelzebub as a prospective baby name just because you heard it from a TV show and you find it cute. Don’t use Rodelfa just because a certain Mexican TV show’s hunky lead actor is called Rodolfo. Just plainly saying yes to your gutfeel, thinking of the people that pops into your head upon hearing somebody spout a certain name, trying to follow a fad by naming your baby a certain celebrity’s (sometimes notorious) or NOT THINKING AT ALL in giving your precious one his or her baby name are huge no-nos!

3. Consider reading the initials of the baby name you are planning to give your baby. Make sure they don’t stand for anything funny, disturbing or something utterly stupid. Christine Sue Irving? What will happen on the next episode? Alvin Stephen Stuart? He’ll surely remember not to get near any hole. Fran Ursula Catherine Klein? Uh-oh! See? Can you imagine the sickening situation you may put your child into when he or she grows up?

4. Go check your family tree once and for all. Some can’t still get away from some traditions regarding baby name decisions, especially when they have a special bond with a certain family member that they want that person’s name to be a part of their baby’s name. If your planning to still follow the tradition of putting a part of your elder relatives’ names on your baby’s name, you have to know whether anybody else in your family use that name too. You don’t want to confuse people when they’re calling a name that’s owned by two. Ask around.

5. Don’t go for the overkill. Being too creative on thinking of a baby name can backfire, I’m telling you. Examples are too unique spellings. It will be hard for the kid to keep on spelling his or her name to people who only know the common spelling of such name.

6. Decide with your partner in coming up with the best baby name for your sweet baby. It wouldn’t be nice to be always blamed when people ask who chose that awful baby name, right? Okay, kidding aside. Sharing on this kind of decision-making is a good way of furthering your bond as a couple, not to mention the possibility of coming up with a better baby name. Remember that the “two heads are better than one” thought also applies to dealing with the troubles of finding the most suitable baby name for your baby.

Sound, appeasing relatives and friends and avoiding embarrassing initials and discovery of disgusting meanings are some of the major concerns that should be considered in your quest for the perfect baby name. You might find them a bit taxing. But in the long run, you’ll see that doing your homework will make your baby thank you when the right time comes. Happy baby naming!

Planning to host a baby shower? Or a friend of yours recently gave birth to a healthy bouncing baby? How else could you express that you care for that friend of yours and her baby? A baby gift basket could be the best present that would express your concern.

A baby gift basket is one of those themed gift baskets that are presented containing items that are of value to the recipient. Oftentimes these baby gift baskets contain the following items that will surely give delight to the new parents and to the new addition. You could make use of this information to create or stuff your own baby gift basket that will rid you of those more expensive commercialized kinds.

Nursery room items. These include colorful mobiles to keep the baby busy, lullaby music to soothe the infant, and nursery rhymes CD’s. Bigger items like layettes, changing mats for tables and cribs, and other furniture for the baby may be found in de luxe baby gift baskets. Educational toys are also good to make the baby gift basket more beneficial in stimulating the baby’s mental development.

Toys R Us. The following toys are also nice to place inside your baby gift basket. Rattles, pacifiers, teethers, feeding bottles, infant cups, bibs and spoons are also useful add-ons in your baby gift basket.

Bath Bath Baby. Bath products for babies are also commonly found in baby gift baskets. These include baby shampoo, baby powder, baby towels, wipes, bubble bath, brush set and tub toys that the baby will surely enjoy in the near future. Baby clothing’s could also be considered as one of the best baby gift basket goodies that one could ever give. Just be sure that the clothes you’ll give suit the gender of the baby.

If you are to a baby gift basket to someone with a toddler or a young kid, the items should also suit the baby’s age. Soft toys, board books, board games, piggy banks will certainly win the jump with delight of a toddler. Clothes for toddlers are also nice to include in your baby gift basket.

If one is intending to give the baby gift basket as a baby shower present, it will be nice if baby cookies, baby cakes, jelly beans and other baby foods will be found there. Announcement and invitation cards may also bring some added surprise to the recipient of the basket. Small picture frames and albums could also add more fun to your baby gift basket. Surely, this sweet gesture will be appreciated.

Gourmet food, wines and other fine food may also be placed inside a baby gift basket for the parent’s celebration.

Oftentimes, bows and ruffles adorn the baby gift basket. But one could still be more creative by doing a decoupage of baby pictures or baby items. Other handmade crafts may add personal touch to your basket. They could be in the form of papier mache’, origami, sculpture, small painting, woven or knitted items, etc.

If the one giving the baby gift basket intends to give it during a christening celebration or baptism, a small bible, silver cups and any symbolic item that adheres to the theme of the celebration and that the recipient’s religion appreciates may also be placed in the basket.

A small gesture like giving out a well-thought of baby basket can surely go a long way. The recipient’s smile is enough to mean a sincere “thank you”.

Baby Shower Gifts

Shopping for baby shower gifts is a lot of fun! If you are looking for creative baby gifts, baby gifts online, creative baby gifts, gifts for newborn, luxury baby gifts, new arrival baby gifts, special baby gifts or unique baby items there is an amazing range of choices available to you. Everything is so cute and so tiny and so necessary. It’s easy to want to buy everything for the expectant mother, and she probably would graciously accept everything that’s given to her, but there likely are some specific baby items she’d really like to have.

How do guests find out whether or not the mother-to-be has requested any particular baby gifts? Well, they can always just ask her. But a better option might be to ask the person hosting the baby shower. That way, the mother can be truly surprised and excited later on while she’s opening her gifts at the shower.

Baby Gift Registry

Most expectant first-time mothers today register their gift preferences at a store that offers such a service. She’ll spend an afternoon with a gift consultant selecting the items that she’d like to get for her baby. When guests know this registry information, the task of baby gift buying gets a whole lot easier. They just go to the store’s gift registry computer, input the mother’s name or sometimes just the date of the baby shower, and in seconds, a shopping list prints out.

The guest takes the shopping list to the baby department and looks for the items on the list. To make shopping even easier, the retail price for the various gifts is often included right on the shopping list. That way, if the shopper wants to spend a specific amount on the gift(s), it’s easy to go down the list and select the gifts that are within that price range.

Besides being an effective shopping assistant, purchasing off the gift registry cuts down on gift duplication and it ensures that the expectant mother gets exactly what she needs and wants. She can add any baby items the store carries onto the gift registry – linens, clothing, car seats, bottles, diapers, nursery accessories, photo albums, monitors, whatever!

Although having a shopping list of baby gifts makes shopping so much easier, there are a lot of people who do not like to shop this way. They believe it’s a rather impersonal experience, preferring instead to shop for something they feel to be more appropriate for the mother-to-be. This is a fine approach as well and is a perfect option when neither time nor money is an issue.

Engraved Baby Gifts

Baby gifts can be made even more special with the addition of personalized engraving. Engraving is popular especially when the baby shower is going to be held after the baby is born, because guests know all the birth details including the baby’s full name, birth weight and height, and birth date.

Hostess Gifts

Typically the person who hosts the baby shower does not give the mother-to-be a gift. Instead, the bridal shower is her gift. Anyone who has ever hosted a baby shower knows first-hand that this is an elaborate (not to mention expensive!) gift.

Regardless of how the gift idea originated, there’s definitely nothing else that compares to shopping for baby gifts!
